Curtis+Schwarzrock Studio+Glass
‘This is the second generation of this body of work, it has enabled me to enjoy the process of refining details. The process draws upon the traditional glassblowing techniques of sommerso and encalmo. These compositions allow me to layer and suspend hues of subtle of colour, veneers which emphasise the structural element of the pocket of air within. This void assists in making the objects luminous, accentuating their boundaries and margins.
My consideration lies in sympathetically bringing these components together. Reflecting upon how individuals, objects, and philosophies might accommodate each to fit together more harmoniously’. Matthew Curtis, 2024

OUR GLASS PRACTICE IS IN ITSELF SHIFTING PUZZLE, AT TIMES A RAUCOUS FAMILY AFFAIR WITH CONTRIBUTIONS FROM OUR FAMILY. AT OTHER MOMENTS IT IS A QUIET DISTILLATION OF MATERIAL TO CREATE SCULPTURAL WORKS.
WE RUN A STUDIO FROM OUR WAREHOUSE SITUATED IN OUR BACKYARD IN QUEANBEYAN, NSW, AUSTRALIA. WE MELT OUR OWN COLOUR IN THE FURNACE, BLOWING AND CASTING GLASS AND PRODUCING SCULPTURAL OBJECTS FOR EXHIBITIONS AND COMMISSIONS.
