One of Australia’s most iconic artists, Ken Unsworth, is represented in Australia’s major collections. His ongoing obsession with pianos, stones and large scale theatrical installations has earned him a place on the international stage.
Ken’s latest work – a grand piano featuring large glass and lighting elements, made at Canberra Glassworks – will be showcased during intimate performances by pianists (including Jacob Abela and Roland Peelman) as part of the Canberra International Music Festival. Smokestack Piano will be accompanied by a display of work featuring the highly skilled artists commissioned by Ken Unsworth including Tom Rowney, Matthew Curtis, Brian Corr, Harriet Schwarzrock, Annette Blair, Scott Chaseling and John White.
Matthew has been one of the Artists in Residence at the Canberra Glassworks this year as Creative Fellow. It has been a real treat, and a busy and creative time!
As a part Design Canberra's 'Living Artists', we will be hosting an open studio between 11am and 3pm on November 21, 2015.
Matthew and Harriet will be attending SOFA Chicago. Matthew is going with Habatat Galleries and Harriet is travelling with Kirra Galleries.
These are some of the production work we make in the studio, mostly Harry's work, asymetrical and fluid.
"These spiral forms employ the fluidity of glass in its molten state," says Harry. "My interest in the spiral as a structure is inspired by its many manifestations in nature. The spiral is often apparent in circulating fluids and also in the patterning and structures of organic forms." These glass objects are playful forms informed by such small wonders as a shell or by the grand vortices in weather patterns. |
About usIn 2003, Matt and Harry established their studio (affectionately known as Curtistan) in Queanbeyan, New South Wales, where they live with their two sons, Hugo and Oscar and a few furry and feathered friends. Archives
